When Parenthood Feels Different Than You Expected
You may have expected to feel excited or connected, but instead find yourself worrying, feeling low, or going through the motions. Perhaps you’re caring for everyone else while struggling to ask for help. It can be hard to say what you’re feeling when people seem to expect you to be happy.
Pregnancy, postpartum, and the transition to parenthood can bring feelings you weren’t prepared for. You deserve room to talk about those experiences without having to minimize them or pretend everything is okay.
I’m Anna Kimber. I have experience with perinatal mental health and trauma, and I work with depression and anxiety surrounding this stage of life. Together, we can explore what’s weighing on you, find ways to communicate your needs, and work toward feeling more supported.
When It’s Hard to Feel at Ease
You may replay conversations long after they’ve ended, worry about disappointing people, or feel overwhelmed by expectations at school, work, or home. Past experiences might leave you on edge or make it difficult to feel comfortable with others. You may know how you wish you could respond but find yourself falling into familiar patterns.
I work with adults and adolescents to understand what’s happening in those moments and explore what could help. That might mean expressing a need you usually keep quiet, handling a stressful conversation, or finding ways to respond when you feel overwhelmed. We’ll focus on changes that matter to you and fit your everyday life.
A Place to Start Where You Are
You don’t need to know exactly what to say or have everything figured out before starting therapy. We can begin with what has been difficult lately and what you’d like to be different.
My approach is collaborative and trauma-informed, with respect for your pace and what you feel ready to discuss. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help you understand connections between your thoughts, feelings, and reactions and practice responses that support your goals.
I offer online therapy throughout California. If this sounds like the support you’re looking for, reach out to explore whether working together may be a good fit.
